To have a safe and smooth drive in Uganda, you need a car in good shape, and every part of that car performs excellently, including its tires. A car with well-maintained tires drives like it's floating on water. Therefore, we present some condemnatory tips to help you preserve your car tires.
● Tire Rotation:
To ensure even wear and tear, car tires are rotated, and their positions are interchangeable to ensure that each tire goes through a similar amount of workload. For example, a car’s front tires usually carry more weight, therefore wear out more than back tires. Therefore, car manufacturers should rotate the tires every 800 to 10,000 km.
● Pressure on Tires:
The importance of tire pressure can't be overstated for two reasons. First, correctly inflated tires defend against tire damage and limit the risk of the car spinning out of control. Using low-pressure tires affects fuel consumption as well. Check your tire pressure at least once a month, more frequently if you travel a lot of miles, and always before embarking on a lengthy journey. If the tires are hot when you check them, add 4 to 5 PSI to the suggested pressure.
● Tread Depth of a Tire:
Tire tread is vital because it helps evacuate water from the gap between the tire and the road, keeping the automobile under control and preventing aquaplaning. However, rough road conditions, the tire design itself, and driving practices such as high-speed driving and rapid braking can all hasten the wear of tires. The tread depth is how deep the tread is on the road's surface. Check the tread wear indicator bars, which are located on the side of the tire, to verify if it fits this requirement.
● Tire Alignment:
The technique of properly coordinating the axles and wheels is known as wheel alignment. It guarantees that your car works at its best, boosting safety while also protecting your tires from excessive wear and saving you money on gas. The wheel and tires are balanced during wheel balancing. As a result, it preserves the suspension and bearings, reduces vibration, and prevents premature tire wear. When traveling at high velocities, out of equilibrium wheels and the vibrations they create are most noticeable.
● Tire repair or replacement:
If you have any doubts about your tires' roadworthiness, you should have them checked by a professional. Specialists may inspect both the inside and exterior of the tire, following all required methods for disassembling, repairing, and reassembling the wheel, acting following all technical and manufacturer's standards, and ensuring the wheel is re-fitted ideally.
However, tires also have to be replaced at some point. This is dependent on several factors, including the number of km driven and operating style, as well as climate and storage. Therefore, it's critical to inspect your tires consistently and change them when needed, such as when the tread depth reaches the minimum.
